Horror has taken over Hollywood!

PEOPLE can exclusively reveal the cover of Screaming and Conjuring: The Resurrection and Unstoppable Rise of the Modern Horror Movie by Clark Collis, which will explore the resurgence and success of modern horror films.

The new book offers a behind-the-scenes look at the modern horror movie industry and discusses the evolution and popularity of the genre, thanks to such films as the beloved Scream franchise and Ryan Coogler’s recently-released Sinners, which continues to break box office records.

Journalist Collis of Entertainment Weekly and Empire Magazine begins by diving deep into the film that sparked the new age of modern horror — 1996’s Scream — followed by such iconic films and franchises as The Sixth Sense, Blair Witch Project, Final Destination, 28 Days Later, Saw, Paranormal Activity, The Conjuring and many more horror titles through exclusive accounts and interviews with key figures who shaped the era.

Screaming and Conjuring reveals the challenging and often chaotic production stories behind these films, offering readers an inside look at the creative turbulence and triumphs that brought these landmark movies to life,” an official synopsis reads.

“There are a lot of books about horror films from the ’70s and ’80s and I felt this period, too, deserved its own properly-researched history,” Collis tells PEOPLE ahead of the book’s release. “I’ve taken a bird’s-eye view of the whole horror film scene, from the release of the genre-reviving Scream to the 2013 debut of The Conjuring, which inaugurated the first multi-billion dollar horror movie franchise.”

“It’s a fascinating era, not just because of the horror classics which were released, but because of the way genre filmmakers influenced each other and even collaborated together as never before. The success of horror during that time also paved the way for the genre’s most recent wave of hits like M3GAN, The Substance and, of course, Sinners.” he adds.
