Dead Island 2’s latest expansion, SoLA, is now available on all platforms. It launched yesterday to a positive reception, expanding the world established by the super-popular open-world zombie game in April 2023. In the latest expansion, players are introduced to two new zombie ‘archetypes’ that are nothing short of grisly and somewhat disturbing.
Well, That’s Creepy
SoLA is a substantial expansion that takes players to a music festival in Los Angeles. It’s another fun-filled romp in the Dead Island 2 universe, boasting more humourous quips and fantastic ways to slice through the undead hordes, and it introduces two new zombie variants that are pretty terrifying.
First, there’s the Whipper, an awful-looking archetype that attacks players by slashing at them with intensities and entrails. That’s right – this zombie uses its guts as a melee weapon.
Then there’s the Clotter, which is one of the most inventive and innovative zombies I’ve ever seen. The Clotter can decompose at will, dissolving into a puddle of bones and goo, before reanimating and reappearing when the player least expects it. Canonically, it’s because of the immense speakers pulsing bassy beats across the festival, causing zombies to evolve and adapt.
SoLa is a freer expansion than Haus, giving players the option to move around a little more than they did in the mostly linear first expansion of the game. It’s available to download now if you have the expansion pass or to buy on a digital storefront somewhere if you don’t.
