One of the funniest horror movies of the last ten years is airing on TV tonight (Saturday, June 14) ahead of its sequel arriving later in the month.

Horror sequels are all the range these days, with a number of series’ releasing new installments this summer.

Starting off the trend was Final Destination Bloodlines, which secured the series’ biggest ever opening weekend as well as being critically acclaimed.

Friday, June 20, will see the release of 28 Years Later, the third entry in the Danny Boyle zombie franchise which began all the way back in 2002.

On top of this The Conjuring: Last Rites and I Know What You Did Last Summer are both coming out in the next few months.

Out of all the horror sequels on the horizon, there’s no doubt that a sequel to a 2023 science fiction horror flick is at the top of most people’s radars.

M3GAN (pronounced ‘Megan’) follows an artificially intelligent doll who develops self-awareness and becomes hostile toward anyone who comes between her and her human companion.

Directed by Housebond’s Gerard Johnstone, M3GAN is a camp, hilarious and bloody movie that kind of started Brat summer before Charli XCX did.

With the titular doll voiced by Jenna Davis, the film boasts great performances from Girls’ Allison Williams and child star Violet McGraw

Costing just $12 million to make and released in the dreaded January window, M3GAN somehow grossed over $181 million at the box office.

On top of this, critics gave it a staggering score of 93% based on 315 reviews on the website Rotten Tomatoes.

Its critical consensus reads: “Unapologetically silly and all the more entertaining for it, M3GAN is the rare horror-comedy that delivers chuckles as effortlessly as chills”

With M3GAN 2.0 releasing on June 27 and a spin-off, SOULM8TE, dropping next year, now is the perfect time to discover how M3GAN became a cinematic icon.

M3GAN airs on Saturday, June 14, on Channel 4 and channel4.com at 9.35pm
