A real treat for Days Gone fans! Days Gone Remastered, developed by Bend Studio, will be available on PS5 from April 25, 2025. This new edition of the open-world action game offers graphical enhancements, new features and new modes for players wishing to rediscover the story of Deacon St. John, a former biker on a quest for survival in a Freaker-infested world. Developed in collaboration with Climax Studios, this remaster is intended to be ” the definitive version for new and old players alike”.
Synopsis of Days Gone Remastered:
“Days Gone is an open-world action-adventure game set in a hostile wilderness, two years after a devastating global pandemic. Play as Deacon St. John, a drifter and bounty hunter who roams the ruined highways, struggling to survive while searching for a reason to live.”
With the switch to PS5, Days Gone Remastered benefits from improved graphics, with increased display distance, better management of shadows and highlights, as well as support for Tempest 3D Audio and VRR. Two display modes are available: a Quality mode for higher resolution, and a Performance mode for higher frame rates. The gaming experience is also enriched by the integration of DualSense controller functions, allowing you to feel the vibrations of the motorcycle engine or the impact of weapons thanks to adaptive triggers.
New content has been integrated into this remastered version. A Horde Assault mode offers an arcade challenge in which players must survive as long as possible in the face of ever-growing hordes. A Permadeath mode adds an extra layer of difficulty, requiring only one life to complete the story. A Speedrun mode lets you complete mission after mission, aiming for the fastest time. Finally, an update to Photo mode introduces new options such as a time setting and a three-point lighting system.
Our review of Days Gone Remastered :
So, what’s Days Gone Remastered worth on PS5…? We’ve got a couple of things to say about it, and they’re pretty positive! Graphically speaking, there are no major changes, but there’s a nice glow to the game, notably on shadows and textures (among others), which is not negligible. The title already looked good on PS4 when it was released in 2019 (even if not everything was perfect), and it remains so on the remaster.
Story-wise, there’s no change either, apart from the rather nice haptic feedback from the controllers, which doesn’t change the way the game is played or the sensations provided (you’ll notice it at the start of the adventure, but you’ll soon forget it…). The same goes for the gameplay, which hasn’t changed one iota.
What will change, however, are the additional game modes on offer. We like the ” Permanent Death ” mode (even if it’s not our thing), which brings a special dimension to the game, since if you die, you start again from the beginning. The ” Horde Assault ” mode is pretty cool too, bringing waves of Freakers to shoot down, as is the photo mode often requested by gamers on this type of game.
And then there’s the Speedrun mode, sure to please fans of the genre. A game that will undoubtedly please fans of the universe, who enjoyed the PS4 version. Fans of zombie games will also find something to their liking. But if this isn’t the kind of game you like, it’s clearly not for you. After that, it’s up to you to decide whether your curiosity is strong enough to give it a try… But you might be surprised! A must for the curious.
