4 Ice Hockey Horror Movies to Watch While the Stanley Cup Playoffs are Happening

The two best times of the year are Halloween and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Halloween is still months away, but the toughest championship to win in professional sports is going on as I write this. So, with hockey on my mind 24 hours a day right now, I thought I’d make a quick list of ice hockey horror movies.

Despite the fact that one of the most iconic killers in horror history wears a hockey mask, the sport itself isn’t widely represented in fright films. Even so, there are a few movies with memorable ice-hockey-related scenes. Here are a few of the best.

Ahockalypse (2018)

Wayne Harry Johnson Jr. directed and co-wrote Ahockalypse.

Ahockalypse has to be the most hockey-forward horror movie ever made. The premise is simple; A hockey team wins the championship, but their celebration is ruined by a zombie apocalypse. As you might expect, it’s a goofy horror comedy, with a strong emphasis on the comedy side of the story. As a bonus for hockey fans, former NHL player, coach, and TV analyst Barry Melrose has a cameo in Ahockalypse.

Another WolfCop (2017)

The first WolfCop is also available on Tubi

This Canadian monster comedy builds towards a climactic scene at a hockey game. As the puck drops, WolfCop reveals himself to be the goalie opposing the villain’s team of minions. What follows is an extremely bloody battle on ice as WolfCop slashes, shoots, and punches his way to victory.

Damien: Omen II (1978)

This sequel picks up the story of the Antichrist, Damien, when he’s a 12-year-old boy. Though the majority of the story has nothing to do with sports of any kind, there is a scene in which Damien participates in an ice hockey game on a frozen lake. Someone dies an “accidental” death, ruining the game they had going.

Killer Movie (2008)

Killer Movie (2008)
Killer Movie is a pretty decent slasher with many comedic moments

A television crew is sent to a small North Dakota town to document the story of an underdog high-school ice hockey team. However, the abrasive producer of the show is more interested in investigating the suspicious death of a local teen. Unsurprisingly, the TV crew’s presence draws the attention of a masked killer.
