ITV viewers brand new game show a ‘rip-off’ of popular BBC series | Bristol Live

ITV viewers have claimed that a new game show is a rip-off of a popular BBC programme

Viewers of ITV’s new game show Genius Game were reportedly turning off their TVs, with many branding the programme a “Traitors rip-off”.

The fresh reality series, presented by David Tennant, selects contestants for their sharp intellect and social savvy to engage in a survival contest that goes beyond mere brainpower.

To claim victory, participants must navigate a series of unique games that challenge their mental agility while also employing strategic manipulation to outwit rivals for a monetary reward.

In a recent episode, Charlotte triumphed in the main match, whereas Paul found himself facing the death match.

During tonight’s (1st May) instalment, players tackled the ‘Main Match’ known as the Zombie Game. With mystery cards in play, two contestants became zombies tasked with converting their human counterparts, who must evade zombification, reports Wales Online.

Following a tense competition, Scott and Alison were pitted against each other to stay in the game. They entered the Death Match where ultimately Alison emerged victorious, leading to Scott’s early exit from the show, much to his disappointment.

Despite the unfolding drama, viewers at home were quick to draw parallels between the show and the popular BBC hit Traitors.

One viewer took to X (formerly Twitter) to say: “This is the traitors with zombies.#GeniusGame.”

Furthermore, another suggested that the show seemed like a complex take on Traitors, stating: “So this is just a complicated version of the traitors now, i don’t get it #geniusgame.”

Another viewer echoed the sentiment: “This game is like The Traitors! #GeniusGame.” While a different individual remarked: “The creators of the traitors watching this #GeniusGame.”

Some viewers, however, expressed their disinterest, finding the show too baffling to enjoy. One viewer admitted: “Tried to watch the Genius Game. If a game show requires diagrams I’m out.”

Others shared their perplexity, with one commenting: “Never been so confused in my life #geniusgame.” And another revealing: “I’ve given up on #GeniusGame just isn’t grabbing me at all.”

Adding to the confusion, someone else questioned the show’s host: “Does Tennant even know what’s going on? He’s just reading the autocue #GeniusGame.”
