If you’ve been hankering for some zombie-slaying, apocalypse-surviving action, then you’ll be glad to know that Darkest Days has finally released on iOS and Android. This open-world survival action shooter offers the best of many top releases in the genre, all in the palm of your hand.
It’s not hard to see where Darkest Days draws its inspirations from as you’re dropped in the middle of a zombie-infested world and left to fend for yourself. You’ll need to scavenge equipment and weapons, make allies (or enemies) and create a base with which to survive the onslaught of the ravenous dead.
A myriad of releases have tried to copy the exact feeling of zombie films, such as Project Zomboid, Seven Days to Die and State of Decay. Darkest Days follows in their footsteps with many of the mechanics which made these so popular, for better or for worse.
Rule #1: Cardio
Darkest Days offers a great break from the norm for zombie survival on mobile. Whereas tower defence and strategy have dominated this genre on mobile, Darkest Days offers just as familiar but unusual third-person shooting and survival. You’ll be able to jump into both single and multiplayer, hop into vehicles and take on zombies in a variety of biomes ranging out from your starting point of Sandy Creek.
Whether or not Darkest Days stands out from its predecessors, I think it’s fair to say that we haven’t yet seen something like it make a proper mark on mobile. And with more intimate survival gameplay, I reckon this could turn out to be a fan favourite in the long run.
