Boy, we’re gonna have a lot of ugly motherfuckers at the cinema this year. Recently, we wrote about Predator: Killer of Killers, which is going to hit Hulu this summer, and act as The Animatrix for the movie that this post is about: Dan Trachtenberg’s Predator: Badlands. This is the big-budget Alien: Romulus-like return to the screen that Predator fans have been waiting for (and it just makes us that much angrier that the absolutely fantastic Prey never got a theatrical release), and boy howdy does it look like an absolute banger from this trailer that 20th Century Studios (aka Zombie Fox) dropped on Wednesday.
For a one-minute teaser, there’s a lot of meat to chew on: Elle Fanning as (potentially) a Weyland-Yutani synth, hardcore action from the young Predator, and even an Easter egg — spot what other Fox franchise alien has its head represented on the Predator’s wall of kills early on. They might have wanted to wait to drop this one on July 4, if that’s what we think it is. Anyway, it rocks, and will make you actually want to see a Predator movie in the theaters since the day that Danny Glover took over the reins from Arnie (and sure, we like all of those movies, but let’s be real: the count stopped at two good features in this franchise until Prey came out).
Peep it:
Here’s the official synopsis for Predator: Badlands:
“‘Predator: Badlands,’ which stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, is set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary. The film is directed by Dan Trachtenberg and produced by John Davis, Dan Trachtenberg, Marc Toberoff, Ben Rosenblatt, Brent O’Connor.”
Predator: Badlands will crash-land into a theater near you on November 7.
