Warner Bros. executive Jesse Ehrman has teased the possibility of A Minecraft Movie 2, following the movie’s commercial success. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the live-action adaptation of Mojang Studios‘ popular video game has already earned a worldwide gross of over $700 million at the box office against its reported budget of around $150 million.
What was Warner Bros.’ A Minecraft Movie 2 update?
In a recent interview, Ehrman was asked if Warner Bros. is planning the A Minecraft Movie sequel. He admitted that it would “foolish” of them not to make another one, especially after receiving positive responses from moviegoers.
“I mean, we’d be foolish not to,” He said. “The fans want more, so hopefully we’ll be able to figure something out.”
In addition, Ehrman also shared his thoughts about the viral Chicken Jockey craze that was created from the movie. The trend involved the audiences going wild in movie theaters after watching the scene of Jason Momoa fight against a baby zombie riding a chicken. In the game, the appearance of Chicken Jockeys is considered a rare event for players.
“I’d be lying if I said I knew that [chicken jockey] would be a thing, but it was something that we talked about,” Ehrman revealed. “You can’t account for the emergent behaviour and the things that people connect with. You just want to create a movie that feels fun and authentic to people’s engagement and experience with the game. And if you’re rigorous about that, then these things can happen.”
A Minecraft Movie was directed by Jared Hess. The cast is led by Momoa as The Garbage Man, Jack Black as Steve, Emma Myers as Natalie, Danielle Brooks as Dawn, Sebastian Hansen as Henry, and Rachel House as Malgosha. Additional cast members include Matt Berry, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement.
The film was produced by Momoa, Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jill Messick, Torfi Frans Ólafsson, and Vu Bui, with Todd Hallowell, Jay Ashenfelter, Kayleen Walters, Brian Mendoza, and Jon Spaihts executive producing. It is produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures.
