Christopher Landon’s ‘DROP’ (2025) – Movie Review – PopHorror

Drop is a modern twist on a tale as old as time. A good person is put in a rather treacherous situation, of having to take someone’s life to save their loved ones. This theme has been effectively portrayed in films like  Red Eye (2005), Phone Booth (2002), and Nick of Time (1995), each offering their unique spin on a high stake situation.

Drop manages to carve out its own identity and keep viewers engaged from start to finish. Let’s have a look…

Synopsis

Following the story of Violet (Meghann Fahy), a widowed mother who goes on a date at an upscale restaurant to meet Henry (Brandon Sklenar). However she soon finds herself in a dangerous game of cat and mouse, showcasing the fragility of trust and the unpredictability of life.

Drop takes something as simple as airdropping a photo and turns it sinister. I had actually seen the movie with my sister, and told her how I randomly dropped a funny photo to someone at a restaurant one time. Harmless fun right? Not in Drop. The film turns this concept on its head, using its catalyst for tension and intrigue.

Drop has a wonderful balance of humour along with suspense, which makes it so much fun. Especially when you see it with others or in the Theater. There’s something about that fun energy where everyone is laughing together.

I will say the one thing I kept thinking was “who goes on a first date at this fancy of a restaurant?  While the whole cast gives commendable and memorable performances, one character stands out: Matt. Played by Jeffery Self he adds depth and a touch of charm that makes him my favourite character.

Conclusion

Overall Drop is a  delightful blend of suspense and humour that guarantees an entertaining movie night. With its engaging storyline and memorable performances, it’s certainly worth watching for those looking for a thrilling escape.
