Fans of the Evil Dead franchise may wonder where the new installment stands. We have an update and news that it won’t be the final film; plenty more will come.
A Rich History of Deadite Slaying Action
Sam Raimi, the mastermind behind it all, kicked things off way back in ’81 with the original The Evil Dead. That movie? Pure, raw horror. And it kept going, spawning Evil Dead II in ’87 and Army of Darkness in ’93, which went full-on medieval mayhem. Let’s not forget “Ash vs Evil Dead,” the series that brought Bruce Campbell’s Ash back for more chainsaw-wielding, deadite-slaying action. During our interview with Bruce Campbell, he discussed the series connections and more; it’s worth checking out.
New Mayhem
Then, things got a little rebooted, or maybe more like re-energized, with Fede Álvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead. That one was brutal and seriously intense and exists in its own corner of the Evil Dead world. However, it still has those creepy connections to the originals. And then, we got Evil Dead Rise in 2023, which took the whole “deadite invasion” thing to an entire new apartment building-sized level of terror.
But here’s the kicker: It sounds like we’re just getting started. Word on the street is that the Evil Dead crew has some serious plans brewing. Like, they’re not just resting on their laurels; they’re actively cooking up more nightmares. Apparently, they’re already knee-deep in making Evil Dead Burn, which will be the sixth movie in the series. They’re even talking about a seventh. But that’s not all! They also hint at fresh, new Evil Dead stories we haven’t heard about yet. They’re saying if these new concepts take off, we could look at even more future installments.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, New Line Cinema CCO Richard Brener stated, “We have a lot of great stuff in the works, and we’re also making our second Evil Dead movie [Evil Dead Burn] with plans for a third as well. But there are also new fresh ones that you haven’t heard of that we believe, in success, we’ll have multiple installments.”
