“The most exploitative idea for a game I’ve ever heard”: Hideo Kojima Has Some of his Fans Turning Against the … – FandomWire

There are few directors or personalities inside the video game industry who can really make anything they want without asking questions. One of those names is Hideo Kojima, creator of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding. This Japanese creator made games reach a new level of originality.

Unfortunately, there are not all great ideas; there was a time when this director had some wacky ideas that fans wouldn’t like. This project was a zombie online game that would have required players to pay for multiple accounts in order to keep playing.

A Great Director Does Not Always Have Amazing Ideas

Hideo Kojima had some ideas in the past that were no good at all.

The game industry has some names that change it all forever, with titles that really push this business to a new level, making video games one of the most profitable entertainment mediums in the world. With names like Ken Levine, Cliff Bleszinski, Tim Schafer, and, of course, Hideo Kojima, these creators almost invented new genres and games that broke the mold of the business, making titles like Gears of War, Bioshock, Psychonauts, Metal Gear Solid, and more.

After making three very successful games with the MGS franchise, Kojima was ready to part ways with Konami and focus on other new ideas that he always had. But he preferred to work on two more titles, complicating his relationship with the Japanese company even more. This led him to leave the studio and start his own project, which resulted in Death Stranding. But not all the past ideas were good.

Thanks to the amazing work of YouTuber DidYouKnowGaming, he has meticulously compiled all the Kojima interviews and declarations over the years, allowing him to look back at all the seemingly absurd ideas.

One of these ideas involved creating an online zombie game that would cause players to lose control of their characters after a zombie bite. The only way to end that newly converted zombie’s activity is to kill them with another account.

The weirdest thing about this game is that it would have been subscription-based, so if you become a zombie, you will need to create another account to kill that zombie to end the subscription. But if you get bit in the second account as well, you will have your accounts under no control whatsoever. Even if Kojima were involved, this would likely lead players to dislike the game; it’s not a good idea.

One fan called it “the most exploitative idea for a game I’ve ever heard” in the comments,

Even with Hideo Kojima’s large fan base, this project would’ve been likely to end in just a few months. No player would want to pay for numerous accounts to keep losing power over their accounts. All ideas will not work; it is not easy to make something interesting that players want to play, no matter what. Not even Hideo Kojima can escape the current trending moment in gaming, where every new game has a time span of popularity.
