Fighting games are certainly no stranger when it comes to crossovers, even when it comes to very different kinds of video games and media. This one, however, is something else.
A trailer for the mobile zombie game Doomsday: Last Survivors recently caught our eye for an unexpected fighting game collaboration that you’ll just have to see for yourself.
If you haven’t watched it already, we certainly recommend doing so before continuing with the story here as to not get spoiled.

So yeah, that just happened.
Nevermind the girl that definitely isn’t Ellie from The Last of Us, that’s freaking Mai Shiranui jumping in to save the day and burning up a bunch of zombies.
If that wasn’t weird enough, the collaboration event is specifically with The King of Fighters ’97 of all games. Don’t ask us why though. The only thing we can think of is maybe those rights are easier to obtain than the other KOF titles.
The character model looks pretty well detailed (in that generic mobile game look) and accentuates Mai’s signature features though something about the face doesn’t exactly scream that this is the Shiranui ninja.
We’re not even sure what the actual gameplay is like for this besides collecting survivors with some of them being legally distinct versions of more iconic characters like Resident Evil’s Jill Valentine, but hey, Doomsday has Mai in it I guess.
There was another weird fighting game crossover that popped up on our radar with Guilty Gear Strive content coming to Dave the Diver, but this is way more out there.
