Film enthusiasts were excited when Jambi was announced as the first Malayalam movie to explore a zombie world. The makers have now released a teaser giving a glimpse into the movie today (June 15). George Kora is directing this movie, which is bankrolled by Weekend Blockbusters.

Jambi first-look teaser

This one-minute four second video provides a snapshot of the zombie world of Jambi. It depicts a velichappadu, who according to Hindu belief serves as a medium between a god and devotees, gazing eerily up at the night sky. His eyes instantly turn white, and he stains his body with turmeric and vermilion red powders before eerily disappearing into thin air. The audience gets a brief sight of a frightening zombie-like entity staring directly at them. It delivers a hint of the spine-tingling experience that the movie would provide in theatres, even though it does not reveal anything about the plot or the cast.

Detective Ujjwalan, Dhyan Sreenivasan’s most recent film, featured this new teaser as an after-credit scene. The link between these films is suggested by the fact that the same Velichappadu who appears in the video also made a fleeting appearance in the investigative thriller.

The recent release of Detective Ujjwalan complements Weekend Blockbusters‘ efforts to develop the first cinematic universe in Malayalam film. This franchise also includes Minnal Murali, starring Tovino Thomas. Meanwhile, the audience was left wondering about the producers’ next films and increased interest for them due to the subplots in these films that show their attempts to include an intriguing cinematic universe (WCU).

The script for Jambi was written by George Kora, Harikrishnan, and Nandu Manoj. The cast and crew’s other details remain unknown. It was earlier reported that Pearle Maaney will play a pivotal role in Jambi. In December 2024, a motion teaser with the title was released by the makers. It will hit the big screen in 2026.
