The announcement of Malayalam film Jambi had sparked excitement among cinephiles as it promises to delve into a zombie world, a first for Malayalam. George Kora is helming this movie, and in the latest update, the makers have said that the first-look teaser from the film will be released on June 15, 2025.
Jambi first-look teaser
Jambie, the upcoming Malayalam movie, is backed by the Weekend Blockbusters. The makers took to their social media to announce that the first-look teaser will be out at 11 am on Sunday.
Notably, Weekend Blockbusters’ most recent release was Detective Ujjwalan, starring Dhyan Sreenivasan. They have been on the path to set up the first cinematic universe – Weekend Cinematic Universe – in Malayalam and Jambi could also be an addition to it. Weekend Blockbusters’ popular ventures include star-studded Bangalore Days and Tovino Thomas’ Minnal Murali and RDX, Weekend Cinematic Universe. Jambi will also feature Pearle Maaney.
Nandu Manoj, Harikrishnan, and George Kora have penned the script for Jambi. Other details of the cast and crew are not known. With the first-look teaser releases, the makers are expected to disclose more details. A motion teaser revealing the title was unveiled in December 2024.
Weekend Blockbusters’ Detective Ujjwalan and Minnal Murali
Dhyan Sreenivasan-led Detective Ujjwalan, helmed by Rahul G and Indraneel Gopeekrishnan, released in theatres on May 23, 2025, and garnered mixed reviews. A local detective is hell-bent on catching hold of a mysterious figure in the quiet village of Plaachikkaavu. Some found the film intriguing, while others found it to be predictable.
On the other hand, Minnal Murali, led by Tovino Thomas and helmed by Basil Joseph, garnered more popularity when it released directly on Netflix in December 2021. Narrating a desi superhero tale, Minnal Murali stars Tovino as the titular character. After tailor Jaison gets struck by a lightning, he gets superhuman powers.
