Featuring fast-paced gun assembly mechanics and intense combat, Gun X is a VR shooter that offers varying levels of FPS for added excitement. The game was developed and is designed to be a virtual reality experience, with its unique features including hand-held weapons, immersive PvP, and zombie survival modes.

At its core, Gun X is all about speed and precision. The task of assembling weapons in real-time is an exciting aspect that adds excitement to every encounter. Quickly assembling your weapon is crucial in both a PvP battle and defending against undead attacks, as it can determine the outcome of any encounter.

Three primary game modes are available:

  •         Duel Matches: 1v1 Combat-based games that require players to possess weapons and firepower.
  • Zombie Mode, a violent survival mode where players must fight against dangerous groups of enemies.
  • To perfect your shooting range and improve your accuracy in assembly, practice at the Shooting Range.

The modes are expertly executed, with responsive controls and a satisfying feedback system. The gunplay is powerful and impactful, and the real-time assembly mechanic never seems to age, especially when faced with pressure.

Although Gun X doesn’t exceed the visual quality of Meta Quest, it makes effective use of highly stylized environments and a clean user interface to maintain immersion. There are sparsely populated environments and functional atmospheric conditions, while detailed weapon models are prevalent. The zombie designs are particularly effective, with just enough variety to keep things interesting.

The game’s sound design is a perfect match for the action. It’s a very immersive experience with the clink of metal as you snap pieces together, the sound of gunfire and the creepy sounds of approaching zombies. Why?

Gun X shines in multiplayer. PvP is a competitive and smooth game experience, with minimal latency and attracting players on multiple platforms. The leaderboard system provides a layer of differentiation and encourages repetition. Co-op is an option for friends who want to survive together, as Zombie Mode offers this feature.

A modular weapon system in the game makes replayability possible…. You unlock new parts and configurations as you progress, allowing for significant flexibility in customization.

With Meta Quest 3 Gun X runs smoothly with relatively consistent frame rates and quick load times. The game’s well-crafted design ensures that it remains competitive and engaging, regardless of the zombie outbreak or intense PvP battles. It is a small enough size (2GB install) to be suitable for users with limited space.

With its real-time weapon assembly mechanic, Gun X is the most innovative VR shooter title in the genre. This is fast-paced, enjoyable, and surprisingly calculated. Although there is room for more nuances in the environment and storylines, its core gameplay loop is strong enough to keep players coming back for additional experiences.

Kevin Austin has been in gaming journalism in one way or another since the launch of the Nintendo Gamecube. Married and father of 3 children he has been gaming since the ripe age of 6 when he got his first NES system and over 30 years later he is still gaming almost daily. Kevin is also co-founder of the Play Some Video Games (PSVG) Podcast network which was founded over five years ago and is still going strong. Some of his favorite gaming series includes Fallout and Far Cry, he is a sucker for single player adventure games (hence his big reviews for Playstation), and can frequently be found getting down in one battle royale or another. If it’s an oddball game, odds are he’s all about it.
