Kyle Sandilands movie debut: Radio host’s first day on set of Zombie Plane was a ‘disaster’

After announcing his latest career move on-air yesterday, Kyle Sandilands jetted off to the Gold Coast to make his big-screen debut in Zombie Plane.

But his first day on the set of the action flick didn’t go as planned, with the radio shock jock revealing he was “humiliated” in front of the film’s high-profile stars.

The first-day horrors all began before Sandilands had even landed in the sunshine state, he explained on-air from his Gold Coast hotel this morning.

“I was humiliated yesterday,” he said, before recalling he had mentioned it was his costar’s birthday on air yesterday morning.

“You might remember me mentioning Stephen Curry’s birthday. Stephen Curry is the actor from The Castle,” he said.

Then last night, Sandilands found himself on the same flight to the Gold Coast with Curry, who was confused when the radio host wished him a happy birthday.

“I look over and there’s Stephen Curry sitting opposite me across the hall. I said, ‘Happy birthday, mate’. And he said, ‘Hey?’ I said, ‘Isn’t it your birthday today?’ and he said, ‘No’.”

Sandilands then he tried to confirm when Curry’s actual birthday was, but he didn’t share.

The broadcaster and his manager Bruno Bouchet became confused when they realised several sources confirmed the actor’s birthday was, in fact, May 26.

The embarrassment continued when Sandilands went to costuming, where he saw Curry again.

“I walked in and I said, ‘It is your birthday’ and he went, ‘It’s not, I don’t know what to tell you, it’s not my birthday’,” Sandilands explained.

“And then everyone just looked at me and I said, ‘Oh, I’m Kyle by the way’.”

Curry birthday blunder aside, the radio star’s first-day horrors continued when he discovered the costume he would be wearing for his feature film cameo as a billionaire yacht owner.

“That’s another problem we’re going to have, I’ve got an issue with the movie and I don’t want to rock the boat on day one of my first-ever acting opportunity, but … they don’t understand what a billionaire looks like,” Sandilands said.

According to Sandilands, the costume team said while he is the billionaire owner and captain of the yacht, he will wear the same outfit as the other characters on the boat.

It’s a costuming decision Sandilands is not stoked with.

”I’m all of a sudden Captain Sandy from Below Deck, just looking like every other bastard and I said, ‘Hang on, I’m supposed to be the billionaire that owns the boat aren’t I?'”

The costume team explained it was a decision they made after getting inspiration from a real-life yacht owner and his crew, but Sandilands was still displeased.

“I looked at Bruno, Bruno knew I was distressed. I’m not coming up here to play an employee.”

During the chat, Bouchet and Sandilands’ on-air newsreader attempted to soothe the radio star, explaining the costuming was probably a comedic choice.

“So I’ve been brought in to be laughed at, is that what you’re saying?” Sandilands said.

“Maybe I should just come home, Jackie’s not even here, I feel this whole thing’s a disaster,” he later added.

The upcoming film is set to feature a bevy of celebrities including Chuck Norris, Vanilla Ice, Sophie Monk and Amy Shark.
