And before The Wire take to the field against Hull KR on Friday, a special live version of it will be played by local band The Ambersons.
The song “Zombie” by The Cranberries carries extra meaning in the town, given it was written as an anthem of unity and remembrance in the aftermath of the IRA bombing in Warrington town centre in March 1993 that killed two young boys – three-year-old Johnathan Ball and 12-year-old Tim Parry.
Tim’s father Colin Parry has given his and his family’s blessing to the club for the song’s continued use at home games in the hope that it will be further embraced by supporters in the lead-up to matches.
The Ambersons will play a set on the Hoover Main Stage – below the big screen at The Halliwell Jones Stadium – on Friday and their final song will be a cover of “Zombie,” which fans are encouraged to join in with before kick-off.
