The news broke over the weekend that Blumhouse and Prime Video’s new horror-comedy series “The Bondsman” has already been cancelled after just one season, and star Kevin Bacon has taken to his personal Instagram account to issue a video statement this week.
“Hey folks. Really bummed out that The Bondsman is not coming back for a second season,” Bacon’s video begins. “I just really loved walking in Hub Halloran’s shoes, making that show with so many great talented people. I wish I had an explanation for you, but I honestly don’t.”
Bacon continues, “But for those of you who checked it out and who wrote so many sweet comments – and there were a lot of you – I just want to say thanks. Means a lot to me.”
The most likely explanation is that “The Bondsman” failed to find an audience on Prime Video, but it’s interesting to note that it only premiered less than two months ago on April 3. In this new streaming era, it seems most shows just don’t even have a chance to build an audience, and streamers like Prime are quick to pull the plug on anything that’s not an instant hit.
As Bacon says in his video, “I guess that’s the way it goes.”
Kevin Bacon starred in “The Bondsman” as Hub Halloran, a murdered bounty hunter, who’s back from the dead after being resurrected by the Devil to trap and send back demons that have escaped from the prison of Hell. By chasing down those demons, with the help and hindrance of his estranged family, Hub learns how his own sins got his soul condemned — which pushes him to seek a second chance at life, love, and country music.
The series was created by Grainger David, with Erik Oleson serving as showrunner.
You can stream all eight episodes through Prime Video today.
And catch Kevin Bacon in The Toxic Avenger in theaters on August 29!
