Kenny Caperton has brought Haddonfield to North Carolina. The Halloween horror fan has built a life-sized replica of the original Michael Myers murder house.
It takes pure love to invest in something so permanent and Caperton proves that no idea is too small if you dream big.
It all began when he was 26. A trip to L.A. to visit the actual house in Pasadena from the movie inspired him to build his own. Now 45, Caperton and his home have become icons in their own right.
But it wasn’t easy. Having no idea how to construct a home from the ground up based on the original which was made in 1888 took some thought. The original had no bathroom and no kitchen. A soundstage filled in for those shots in the 1978 movie. For Caperton, adding modern amenities might disrupt the integrity of the idea.
On the Michael Myers NC website they explain what ended up happening: “So the inside got a few bathrooms, slightly bigger bedrooms, a small laundry room, and a few other minor alterations, but the important elements from the movie – Judith’s bedroom, the hallways, staircase, and the basic locations of the kitchen, dining room, and living room are in the same places.”

With the outside playing homage to the Carpenter movie, what’s on the inside? That’s where Caperton really let his love of horror movies come through. Walls plastered in one-sheets, memorabilia, dolls, masks, action figures—you name it and he probably has it.

The good news is that Caperton doesn’t want to keep his work to himself, his Myers house is open by appointment only.
So hop in your Ford Ltd station wagon, put on your best Dittos and get to Caperton’s in Hillsborough, North Carolina to encounter the night he came home.
