Sometimes those who are supposed to be our salvation can turn out to be the biggest monsters. We’ve seen tons of films where those who are meant to help do harm. One of the lastest of these is Final Recovery, which introduces us to the villainous Nanny Lou.
Read on for my thoughts on Final Recovery.
Synopsis
Rodney Garrett enters treatment again, hoping to recover from his addiction. But soon, he uncovers a dark conspiracy led by the sinister Nanny Lou. As he heals, fellow patients vanish, pushing him to a new mission: exposing the prison his addiction has built around him.
Final Recovery was directed by Harley Wallen (Beneath Us All) from a script by Jerry Lee Davis (Pop) and Nick Theurer. The film stars Charlene Tilton (Ladybug), Jasper Cole (Don’t Turn Out The Lights), Richard Tyson (Kindergarten Cop), Michael Emery (They Turned Us into Killers), Kaiti Wallen (Ash and Bone), Cherish Lee (Unstable), Damien Chinappi (I Thought You Were a Nice Man), Heather Fairbanks (The Devil’s Left Hand) and Kayden Bryce (Byte).
I absolutely loved Final Recovery. The film isn’t heavy on on-screen kills or gore but it tells a satisfying story and honestly that’s more important to me. The story centers on Rodney, a man who is brought to a rehab center against his will. It becomes apparent that things aren’t quite as they seem there. Patients are mysteriously vanishing, with the staff claiming they were discharged. Rodney knows something isn’t right and starts investigating.
The story for Final Recovery really drew me in and the characters were likable and sympathetic to me. Maybe it’s because I lost a brother to addiction, but I really felt a connection to the characters and saw them as real people in need of help. This made the villain Nanny Lou completely despicable in my eyes, preying on those in need. She’s not without her reason, as twisted and misguided as it may be.
Charlene Tilton is a wolf in sheep’s clothing as Nanny Lou. She has a calm, kind demeanor that hides a dark side. Her portrayal of the character during the films darker moments are absolutely chilling. Jasper Cole does a wonderful job as Rodney. The character at times can come off abrasive but at his core he’s a decent man who has seen his share of tragedy and just wants to do right by his daughter. Damien Chinappi is excellent as Dustin, a military veteran who turned to drugs to deal with his PTSD. The story is told in a way that we never know exactly what is happening. There is an air of mystery to it. It’s fun to gradually piece out what’s going on before everything is revealed. I thought the resolution to Final Recovery was highly satisfying.
Final Thoughts
