A fresh portrayal of Superman is set to soar onto the big screen in 2025, a full 12 years on from when Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel captivated audiences in 2013, sending fans into a frenzy over the newly dropped trailer.
Director James Gunn, acclaimed for bringing to life some of the most celebrated superhero films of the past decade such as Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad, is steering this latest endeavour.
This vibrant new chapter in the Superman saga will introduce David Corenswet as the iconic Superhero, following Henry Cavill’s memorable tenure, with Rachel Brosnahan of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel fame portraying Lois Lane.
Nicholas Hoult, renowned for his role in X-Men, is stepping into the shoes of Superman’s arch-foe Lex Luthor, generating buzz amongst followers of the genre.
The anticipation had been building since DC’s initial announcement of a new Superman film in January 2023, with the production period stretching from February through to July 2024, reports the Mirror US.
The release of the eagerly-awaited trailer has ignited social media with expressions of sheer enthusiasm.
One fan expressed their awe on YouTube, writing: “WOW! James Gunn understood the assignment! July 11 can’t get here soon enough.”
Another shared their sentiments, saying: “There is something about this movie…the trailers…that just…make me smile while watching it all.”
An additional comment from an enthusiastic fan read: “This trailer gave me chills. Finally, a Superman that feels both powerful and human.”
Admiration was palpable in another response, as a fan predicted: “You can tell there’s heart behind this. James Gunn might have just brought the soul back to DC.

The day before, they teased today’s trailer with an exciting snippet that gave fans a peek at Superman’s canine companion Krypto, as well as a look at Cavill, Brosnahan and Hoult in their roles.
Joining the cast are Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Daily Planet’s photographer; model Sara Sampaio who will become Eve Teschmacher.
Nick Hoult will reunite with his X-Men: First Class co-star Edi Gathegi, who’s set to take on the role of Mister Fantastic, while Isabela Merced from Alien: Romulus will star as Hawkgirl.
James Gunn himself shared his anticipation via Instagram, stating: “I’ve been waiting too long to share this with you all! Full #Superman Trailer this Wednesday.”
Superman is coming to cinemas on July 11, 2025 and is set to be the first film of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
