Oscar-nominated filmmaker Tony Gilroy has opened up about the Alien-inspired episode they had to scrap in Andor Season 2. Prior to the Disney+ series, The Bourne Identity scribe previously co-wrote the screenplay for 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
“Season 2 takes place as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound,” reads the official synopsis. “Rife with political intrigue and danger, Andor sets the clock back five years from the events of Rogue One to tell the story of the film’s hero, Cassian Andor, and his transformation from disinterested, cynical nobody into a rebel hero on his way to an epic destiny.”

What was Andor Season 2’s scrapped Alien-inspired episode?
During a recent interview, Gilroy confirmed that Cassian and K2’s reunion was originally going to be a standalone episode inspired by Ridley Scott’s iconic Alien movie. However, due to scheduling and undisclosed limitations, they had no choice but to scrap their idea.
“The K-2 reunion, Danny did that third block, and [Episode] 9 was a standalone episode at that point. Episode 9 was an episode where Vel and Melshi were supplying Yavin,” Gilroy said. “It was a huge supply ship that was bringing all these supplies to Yavin, and a KX unit gets on the ship. It was sort of like Alien.”
He continued, “It was like a horror movie, what happens on this ship. Cassian was on there, as well, and it was a standalone episode. It was really badass. And Danny poured his ass into it. And they were like, ‘You gotta lose something really big.’ And that was the big thing that fell off right away. ‘We can’t do that.’ Now, I think, honest to god, it was really cool, but I wouldn’t go back to it. I wouldn’t swap it out. I like what we have now better.”
