The Last of Us and 28 Days Later fans told to watch ‘truly remarkable’ horror movie

Fans of The Last Of Us and 28 Days Later have been told to watch one of the best zombie movies ever made in what has since become a modern classic of the post-apocalyptic genre.

Train To Busan has gained renewed attention after being included as part of Netflix’s library for US subscribers. It has allowed those unfamiliar with the film to rediscover it and learn why it is also described as Walking Dead meets Snowpiercer.

Unfortunately for those in the UK, the title is not so readily available. At the time of writing it is only accessible through Studio Canal presents via Apple TV Channels. It can also be rented renting through via digital storefronts including Amazon Video and Sky Store from around £3.49.

Fans of Last of US and 28 Days Later should love the film

Released originally in 2016, this South Korean zombie flick has transcended its genre to achieve cult status. Featuring Gong Yoo of Squid Game fame as Seok-woo, whose birthday train ride with his daughter to Busan turns into an undead-infested terror, the film garnered widespread acclaim.

Directed by Yeon Sang-ho, who later penned and directed Revelations for Netflix, Train To Busan presents a harrowing tale of survival amidst a zombie apocalypse.

Plans were afoot for an American reimagining, set for 2023 under the title The Last Train To New York, but it was scrapped from Warner Bros’ release slate before seeing the light of day. Matching or surpassing the original’s lauded 95% Rotten Tomatoes score is no mean feat, reports the Mirror US.

Online commentaries are buzzing, with numerous viewers praising the film’s cut above the rest. A fan raved: “The Walking Dead meets Snowpiercer but set in Korea and it delivers too.”

They enthused: “It’s on par if not better than most of it’s Hollywood zombie apocalypse counterparts. It’s a great action flick, it’s paced well so it has your attention drawn throughout and the end is somewhat emotional.”

Another viewer was effusive in their praise, declaring: “This is now considered as one of the best horror and thriller movies ever made. Hell this is one of the best movies ever made period. I have never watched a film that can bring so many emotions make you sob like hard rain. If you haven’t seen this masterpiece then you are really missing out on one of the best film of all time, highly recommended!”.

A different fan suggested it deserves to be ranked with the iconic undead films, stating: “When done well a Zombie film can be a truly remarkable piece of cinema.

“Whether you love the brilliant dark political satire of George A. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, the pulse racing terror of Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later, or the slapstick humour of Edgar Wright’s Shaun of the Dead. The Zombie flick has a special place in the hearts of horror fans.”

One individual summed up their thoughts by saying: “Kind of has everything you want in a film for the most part, good acting, some emotional and comedic beats, some real tension and horror and to top it off a typically horrible, morally bankrupt character who you’re rooting for his demise the whole film.”

Echoing these sentiments, another enthusiast declared: “The best zombie film to date. This film is a thrill ride through the whole film. With characters you actually care for and a setting that makes it so claustrophobic and tense you’ll be glued to your seat, not able to look away!”

Train To Busan is streaming on Studio Canal Presents via Apple TV Channels.
