Soon, you will be plunged into the chilling depths of the South Atlantic! Black Mandala and Del Toro Films have just unveiled the trailer for Eyes of the Abyss, a new suspense-soaked action horror-thriller from director Daniel de la Vega. Set against the vast and mysterious backdrop of the South Atlantic Ocean, Eyes of the Abyss throws us headfirst onto a warship where a soldier and a killer are locked in a desperate fight for survival.
According to director Daniel de la Vega, “On a warship laden with corpses and threatening to sink, the film explores the suffering of those caught between life and death, with bold visual aesthetics and a fragmented narrative that defies the conventions of the genre.”
This tantalizing description hints at a film that will deliver pulse-pounding action and delve into the psychological torment of its characters in a claustrophobic and nightmarish setting.
A Dark Tale of Survival
The synopsis paints a grim and gripping picture: Somewhere in the inky blackness of the ocean, a soldier awakens aboard a warship. The chilling sight of lifeless bodies surrounds her, and her memory is a disorienting labyrinth. Suddenly, the ship is stormed by more soldiers on a deadly mission. This amnesiac soldier must react with lethal precision, engaging in a desperate and brutal fight for her very survival. The film suggests that wars leave echoes that transcend death, lingering and seeking vengeance. The ultimate question is posed: Who will dare to face the terrifying gaze of the “Eyes of the Abyss”?
The film marks another powerful collaboration between Furia Films and Del Toro Films. This dynamic duo has previously brought us acclaimed genre films like On the 3rd Day and Auxilio (The Convent).
A World Premiere
The film is gearing up for its highly anticipated World Premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival 2025, specifically at the Marché du Film as part of the exclusive Fantastic Galas presented by the Fantastic Pavilion.
