The reality game show has sparked huge reaction from ITV viewers
ITV Genius Game viewers were left ‘switching off’ with many claiming that the new game show is a “Traitors rip-off”.
The brand new reality show, hosted by David Tennant, sees strategically minded players, chosen not just for their high intellectual prowess but also their social IQ, face the ultimate battle of survival.
To win, contestants have to participate in a host of never-before-seen games all designed to not only test their intellectual acumen, but they’re also encouraged to carefully and creatively use the art of manipulation to outfox their opponents and win a cash prize.
Last night, Charlotte was declared the winner of the main match, while Paul ended up as the candidate for the death match.

During tonight’s (1st May) episode, the contestants took on the ‘Main Match’ of the Zombie Game. Each choosing a mystery card, two players were turned into zombies and their job was to turn their fellow contestants, who are humans into zombies, while their opponent must avoid being turned.
After an intense round Scott and Alison found themselves battling it out to remain in the competition. The duo took on the Death Match and only one would walk away as the winner.
Pressure was on for the duo but in the end Alison came out on top, meaning Scott’s time on the show had come to an end and as expected he was disappointed to be leaving so soon.
Despite all the drama going on, viewers watching at home couldn’t help but point out that the show has a similar concept to BBC hit show Traitors.
One viewer wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “This is the traitors with zombies.#GeniusGame.” Another claimed: “So this is just a complicated version of the traitors now, i don’t get it #geniusgame.”
A third said: “This game is like The Traitors! #GeniusGame.” Another commented: “The creators of the traitors watching this #GeniusGame.”
Meanwhile some viewers claimed to ‘switch off’ as the show is too confusing to follow. One said: “Tried to watch the Genius Game. If a game show requires diagrams I’m out.”
Another commented: “Never been so confused in my life #geniusgame.” One wrote: ”I’ve given up on #GeniusGame just isn’t grabbing me at all.” Meanwhile one confused fan added: “Does Tennant even know what’s going on? He’s just reading the autocue #GeniusGame.”
However not everyone agrees as one fan praised: “Brilliant and intriguing! #GeniusGame.” Another added: “this new game show, #GeniusGame is fab!! I am loving it.”
Genius Game airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
