A Cornish escape room attraction is launching a pasty-fuelled zombie experience for visitors. It’s all set in a corner shop during a “pasty-related infection outbreak” – and it’s replacing a classic game.
“28 Pasties Later” – a nod to 2002 post-apocalyptic horror thriller 28 Days Later – will replace Cabin Fever, a Cold War bunker experience that’s one of the original games at Escape Rooms Cornwall in Penzance. The new addition is said to be filled with “dark humour, dramatic moments, and a few scares”.
The new immersive game – tongue firmly in cheek – will be full of nods to Cornwall and the zombie genre. In a twist to the usual escape room experience, it also involves an “element of player choice” that affects the outcome of the game.
An Escape Rooms Cornwall spokesperson said: “It’s our weird little love letter to the county and the zombie genre. There are nods to Shaun of the Dead, The Last of Us, Dawn of the Dead, Resident Evil, The Walking Dead – and even World War Z, which was partly filmed just up the road in Falmouth.”
The new game has been developed in collaboration with students from Exeter University’s Penryn campus, who have helped design and build interactive props and tech. Aimed at players aged 13 and up, it will open this summer.

Its other escape games are The Lamorna Brown Affair, described as a “fun and fast-paced art heist, where players break into a gallery to steal a priceless painting”.
It is also home to Death by Prescription, set in a 1940s doctor’s office. The “creepy, character-driven room” starts with a routine appointment, with players then challenged to escape before a suspicious GP returns.
