It’s a gritty open-world zombie game with actual atmosphere. I’m talking about NHN Corp’s latest game on Android, Darkest Days. A zombie survival shooting RPG, it’s a bit different from NHN’s previous releases.
Darkest Days Uses the Same Old Formula
The game is set in a world which has fallen apart after a brutal zombie virus outbreak. You’re one of the fragile survivors thrown into the nightmare. You try to piece together what actually happened.
The first place you’ll find yourself in is Sand Creek. It has desolate streets, decay everywhere and something’s probably always watching you.
The map is quite big, though. You can wander through dusty desert villages, frozen-over islands and dilapidated resort towns. As you explore, you’ll slowly unravel where the virus came from.
The game lets you use wheels. You can find and use all kinds of vehicles, from regular family cars to emergency vehicles like ambulances and police cruisers.
Once you get a vehicle, you can mow down zombie hordes with it. You can also upgrade these rides so they don’t fall apart after two crashes or zombie swarms.
The zombies are aggressive. Some move in erratic patterns and attack like they’re actually hunting you. You can shoot them one after another or just lob a bunch of explosives if you’re in a panic.
Shelter-building is a highlight of Darkest Days. You can create a full base with actual facilities and people you recruit. These random survivors can help you produce resources and back you up in a fight.
Like Zombie Games?
Darkest Days has solo mode as well as multiplayer. You can squad up with others to fight endless zombie waves or take down the massive mutant monstrosities for loot. There are PvP zones too, where you can scrap with other players for rare resources.
With the global open beta, it’s the beginning of Season 1 in Darkest Days. It’s called Fake Champion Luna and you’ll get to recruit Luna Bloody. She’s a kendo expert whom you can pull into your shelter, run through her storyline and get to know why someone with her skillset is hanging around in the middle of an apocalypse.
Check out the game on the Google Play Store, it’s free to play.
