Rob Zombie’s outrageous black comedy horror House of 1000 Corpses is getting the deluxe book treatment, with House of 1000 Corpses: The Making of a Cult Classic hitting shelves this fall.
The 300+ page hardcover book comes with a whole host new material for fans of the 2003 cult classic, including concept sketches, interviews, handwritten notes, rare artwork and the film’s original script, collated by the filmmaker/musician himself.
Starring Sheri Moon Zombie, Rainn Wilson, Sid Haig, Walton Goggins, Bill Moseley, and Karen Black, House of 1000 Corpses follows a group of unsuspecting teenagers who, upon stumbling into the titular house, are kidnapped and tortured by the maniacal Firefly family.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre-inspired pic went on to spawn two sequels following the Fireflies, The Devil’s Rejects and 3 From Hell.
In a statement, Zombie speaks more about the inception of House of 1000 Corpses: The Making of a Cult Classic :
“One day while organizing it I thought, ‘What’s the point of keeping all this stuff? This should all be in a book […] So when the 20th anniversary of the film hit back in 2023, I was inspired to finally put it together.
I think fans will really enjoy seeing the journey of how an idea becomes reality. The book takes the fans from early notes and sketches right up to the premiere of the film. Along the way, you see every twist and turn the film took. It is not done through me telling the story but through my script which is covered in all my notes, thumbnails, sketches and constant changes.”
On the film’s dedicated fanbase, he adds:
“I first realized this a few years after the film was released, when I began seeing people getting tattoos of the characters […] Since then, I have literally seen thousands of tattoos. This is the mark of a true cult film.”
Rob Zombie’s House of 1000 Corpses: The Making of a Cult Classic will be published in September 2025 via Insight Editions and is now available for preorder.
