Disney’s Hit ‘Zombies’ Is Coming Back This Summer—This Time Facing a New Rival

Parents/Disney+

High school can be such a bummer. Sometimes your crush is a brain-eating zombie. Or maybe that’s just the premise of the Disney’s hit musical-comedy Zombies franchise, which is getting a new installment this July. Only this time, the cheerleader and the zombie are camp counselors for a group of surly vampires. Being a teenager is so complicated.

What are the Zombies Movies About?

The series starts out in the town of Seabrook, where zombies are just a normal part of life, like pep rallies and football games. The zombies wear bracelets to keep them from craving brains, and start attending Seabrook’s high school for humans.

Life gets even more complicated when series stars Milo Manheim and Meg Donnelly, who play zombie Zed and cheerleader Addison, meet and fall in love—and must convince their friend groups to accept each other.

In the next movie, Zombies 2, the now-reconciled humans and zombies are living in peace in Seabrook. But when a group of local werewolves enrolls at the local high school, tensions once again rise as the town welcomes more monsters.

By the time the third movie in the franchise rolls around, the zombies, cheerleaders, and werewolves face off with a group of invading aliens with uncertain intentions and (no spoilers) an unexpected secret about Addison’s true identity is revealed.

What Can Fans Expect From Zombies 4?

The third movie also introduces many more monsters to the town of Seabrook, including vampires and merfolk. Vampires are the focus of the latest movie in the series, Zombies 4: Dawn of the Vampires.

The movie introduces two new characters, “Nova, a fierce Daywalker, and Victor, a proud Vampire,” according to Disney. When Zed and Addison take a road trip during summer break, they end up in the middle of a daywalker/vampire rivalry. The couple are tasked with bringing the two factions together at camp, in the face of an even bigger threat to monsterkind in Seabrook.

Don’t forget, the Zombies movies are also musicals—and teens seem to love the elaborate dance routines that go along with each original song. The movie features nine new songs, and a reprisal that teen fans of the movie will instantly recognize: “Someday” and “Ain’t No Doubt About It.”

All the previous movies in the Zombies franchise are available to stream on Disney+. Zombies 4 will be released on July 10 on the Disney Channel, and will be available to stream on Disney+ the following day.
