Get ready to run again with the 28 Years Later trailer – Blunt Magazine

Jodie Comer will take on hordes of the unspeakably angry in a new sequel that reunites original director Danny Boyle and original screenwriter Alex Garland.

28 Years Later! Was there ever a more inevitable sequel? After 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Months Later (2007) they kind of had to, didn’t they? Who cares if they fudged the date a bit – so did Terminator 2.

In any case, we are returning to the rage-infected world first described by screenwriter Alex Garland (Warfare), director Danny Boyle (Trainspotting), and cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle (a lot of Dogme 95 movies) back in the day. All three are back in the saddle for this one, too. Sadly, original star Cillian Murphy does not seem to be appearing in front of the camera, but he is on board as an Executive Producer.

And as for the plot, the press release usefully tells us, “It’s been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory, and now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders, and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.”

Yeah, remember: 28 Days Later reinvigorated the zombie genre despite not technically being a zombie movie. The hordes in 28 Years Later aren’t undead, they’re just incredibly angry and have no impulse control. If anything, it’s nastier than the rank and file undead found elsewhere.

For this outing we’ve got Jodie Comer as Isla, a pregnant woman who lives on the tidal island of Lindisfarne, Northumberland; Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Jamie, her scavenger husband; and Alfie Williams as Spike, their kid. Also on board are Ralph Fiennes as outbreak survivor Dr. Kelson; Jack O’Connell as cult leader Sir Jimmy Crystal; Edvin Ryding as Swedish soldier Erik Sundqvist; Erin Kellyman; Chi Lewis-Parry; and Emma Laird. now let’s see if any of them get eaten in the trailer:

Seems suitably apocalyptic. 28 Years Later hits Australian cinemas on June 19 via Sony.
