Marvel Rivals is no stranger to dropping exciting new skins for their characters, constantly giving players fresh ways to engage with their favorite superheroes and villains. But this time, they’ve thrown a curveball, or should we say, a ghoulball?
Enter the Zombie Doctor Strange skin, an undead version of the Sorcerer Supreme that’s supposed to make players feel like they’re controlling a magical monster. Sounds cool, right? Well, not everyone’s spellbound by it.
While the skin looks like it crawled straight out of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there’s something off about it.
Marvel Rivals’ Zombie Doctor Strange falls short of its potential
When the Zombie Doctor Strange skin was first revealed, fans were buzzing with excitement, eagerly awaiting the chance to see the infamous undead version of the Sorcerer Supreme in action.
In the movie, the zombie version of Strange is a terrifying sight, with his rotting flesh and, most notably, his various grotesque, clawed hands that send shivers down your spine. It seemed like a no-brainer that these eerie details would make their way into the game, amplifying the skin’s horror factor.
However, once players took this skin into combat, disappointment quickly set in. While the model itself is visually striking, the hands, the very feature that made Zombie Strange so different in the movie, are nowhere to be found. The voice texture, in particular, doesn’t evoke the same sense of eeriness. Why? Because it’s normal, Strange’s voice.
The skin feels like it’s missing a key piece of its identity, leaving players wondering what could have been. It’s a classic case of a missed opportunity, especially considering how unique the Multiverse of Madness version of Strange is.
I love the skin but feel super mislead.

It’s clear that this skin had so much potential to be an unforgettable addition to the game, but in its current form, it feels like something is missing, especially the undead hands being a glaring example.
Fans are calling for a fix, hoping that the developers will add the hands and fully capture the chilling essence of Doctor Strange’s zombified form.
NetEase missed the mark by a hand’s reach, literally
NetEase had a golden opportunity with the release of the Zombie Doctor Strange skin. This was the perfect chance to deliver something truly special that would not only appeal to fans of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness but also make the game stand out with a spooky, unique addition.
Instead, the developers let a lot of potential slip through their fingers (extra hands would have helped here). The absence of iconic details like the undead hands and the voice work missed the mark, leaving fans frustrated.
But it’s not too late. It has the chance to redeem itself and give fans what they truly want. Perhaps a small rework of the skin to incorporate the missing features, or adding a toggle so players can choose to have the zombie hands visible during combat.
This could give players full control over how they experience the skin, letting them embrace the gory details they were hoping for in the first place. NetEase should take this as a lesson and use the feedback to improve future skins.
With some tweaks, Zombie Strange could have been a true fan-favorite. After all, when it comes to game skins, aesthetics matter most, but they also need to back up the hype. Fans want the complete package, not just a half-hearted version of a beloved character.
In the end, with a little magic and attention to detail, Marvel Rivals could have turned this undead Sorcerer Supreme into the truly supreme skin fans deserve.
