Runners

The Runners are grunt-style Infected. They are the most common types and are fast, agile, and relentless. They charge at you and sprint in your direction in packs. They are at the earliest stage of infection, having only recently turned, which is why they still remain some aspects of their humanity, like being able to mutter words, see, and move like humans.

Stalkers

Stalkers are those Infected who have been infected anywhere between two weeks and a year. This form of the infected varies drastically, and it can take some humans longer to turn into Stalkers, with them remaining as Runners for longer. They often hide behind rocks, furniture, and buildings to stalk and hunt their prey. They can also attach to walls and sit, lurking, waiting for something to walk by to attack.

Clickers

Clickers are one of the other most common types of Infected. They have been infected for a year or more. At this point, the infection has spread and completely taken over their bodies. This blinds them as the fungus grows out of their face. Their only method of detecting threats is through echolocation, which is why staying quiet is key when near them. Because of the length of time the fungus has been in their body, they are much stronger than the other basic types of Infected and can kill in one hit.

Shamblers

Shamblers are those that have been infected for several years. Not all Clickers turn into Shamblers, but if they are near water, then it is more likely for them to evolve into this form. They expel large spore clouds from their hulking bodies which cause acidic burns. The spores on their bodies also explode upon a Shambler’s death.

Bloaters

Bloaters are the most advanced form of the Infected. They have been infected for several years and the fungus has completely enveloped their bodies. This has made them blind and also slowed down their movement as their limbs are restricted by the fungus. The fungal growth around them acts as armor plating, making them incredibly strong. They will charge at their prey, while also throwing spore bombs.

Rat King

The Rat King is a one-of-a-kind Infected that developed in the Seattle hospital after over twenty years of being infected. It is formed from several other Infected into a large clump of flesh and fungus. It is massive, incredibly strong, and able to quickly kill its prey. Even upon death, it stays alive by breaking itself into many parts as the bodies of the fungus scurry around and attack their prey.
