Moviemakers are constructing a ‘bone temple’ at a Wensleydale beauty spot.
The structure near the River Ure at Redmire is part of the set for the film 28 Years Later, a sequel to British horror films 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.
The film crew is due to arrive on the set later this month, with filming on the movie already underway elsewhere in the region.
It is understood filmmakers are making the sequel to 28 Years Later at the same time, which is rumoured to be called 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple, and it has been suggested it is the ‘bone temple’ which is being built at Redmire.
A footpath runs past the set, with the river location popular with picnickers during the summer month, however the right of way has been closed from today until July 26 while filming takes place.
Security guards are also patrolling the site 24 hours a day.
The film is being directed by Oscar winner Danny Boyle, and will star Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Peaky Blinders actor Cillian Murphy, who starred in the original film, is also set to feature.
Meetings have been held with local residents to minimise disruption to the village.
A letter to local residents from DNA Films states: “The fictional film is set in a post-apocalyptic world and follows a young boy’s journey of survival and discovery.”
It adds that the film “is being directed by Danny Boyle (2012 Olympic Games, Yesterday, Slumdog Millionaire) and produced by DNA Films”.
“We are planning to film some scenes locally to you at Redmire Falls for a few weeks during the months of July and August 2024.
The new film, which is rumoured to have a £60 million budget, is written by author Alex Garland, who wrote the screenplay for the previous films.
