Uncover the zombie outbreak all over again with Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster – Checkpoint

Capcom has announced Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, a somewhat unimaginatively-named remake of its 2006 zombie slasher. The game will be heading to modern platforms and bring with it a slew of new features and quality of life improvements.

In the original Dead Rising, you play as Frank West, a plucky reporter who infiltrates Willamette Parkview Mall during a zombie outbreak. Faced with only 72 hours to uncover the truth, Frank must find clues, rescue survivors and mow through waves and waves of the shuffling undead with a massive arsenal of makeshift weapons cobbled together from whether pieces of random objects he can scavenge from the environment. The game became a cult classic for its campy dark humour and innovative gameplay, with virtually anything the player can find being usable as a weapon, often with unique and unexpected effects. The series went on to have multiple sequels and spin-offs, with its developer Capcom Vancouver eventually closing down in 2018 after the release of Dead Rising 4.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will bring plenty of reasons for Dead Rising veterans to check it out. The visuals have been substantially overhauled and improved, and  the game will run at 4K resolution and 60FPS using the RE Engine. The controls and UI have been modernised, with Frank now being able to move and aim at the same time. While players can still make manual saves to experiment with different weapon combinations to their hearts’ content, this will be supplemented with an auto-save system to mitigate time lost to unfortunate game overs. All NPC and survivor interactions will now be fully voiced, and the player can also alter the photos that Frank takes with new filter options. Disappointingly, T.J. Rotolo, who has voiced Frank in the original two games as well as cameo appearances, such as in Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, was not asked to reprise his role by Capcom for some reason, meaning that Frank will have a new voice actor in this remake.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is currently available to preorder, with both a standard edition and a Digital Deluxe version. Preordering the standard version will include the game along with 3 bonus costumes. The Digital Deluxe version, on the other hand, comes with 17 additional costumes for Frank, as well as 17 special BGM tracks.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster will be releasing (seemingly exclusively via digital distribution) on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on September 19th 2024.
