Filming for the Danny Boyle zombie movie starts on Tuesday, but setting the scene is already underway
Preparations to film a Hollywood blockbuster in a rural Northumberland village have begun.
Director Danny Boyle has chosen to set the third film in his zombie trilogy, 28 Years Later, in Rothbury, with locals hoping to spot A-listers such as , Ralph Fiennes and Jodie Comer in the coming days. For now, it’s mostly just crew, after trucks arrived at Cow Haugh Car Park on Monday morning as preparations begun for a big day of filming tomorrow.
Rothbury councillor Steven Bridgett said the town being chosen as a filming location was great for the area. He told ChronicleLive: “I couldn’t think of a better location to film a movie, even if it’s about a zombie apocalypse.
“Knowing the locations of where they’re filming, they’re going to get an excellent view of the village. It’s a great thing for the village and residents have been very receptive and supportive.
“Obviously the main car park being closed is a bit of an inconvenience, but it’s hugely worthwhile and an opportunity to showcase what a beautiful area we live in.”
Filming will take place on Tuesday between 8am and 4pm on Blaeberry Hill, and from 3pm to 7pm on Jubilee Crescent. Two houses in the latter are expected to play a starring role in the movie.
Cow Haugh Car Park will be used as a production base all day, with the trucks set to depart by 9pm. Disruption is set to be minimal, with some cordons in place, and residential cars will still be permitted into Jubilee Crescent to park in their driveways.
