One of the best damn zombie movies ever made is heading back to theaters this weekend to celebrate its 45th anniversary. George A. Romero’s Dawn Of The Dead is a fucking classic where survivors of a zombie apocalypse hunker down in a Pennsylvania mall and try to survive the unrelenting waves of undead while also dealing with the lawless living along the way.
Having premiered on April 12, 1979 at the Gateway Theatre in downtown Pittsburgh, Dawn Of The Dead was the second zombie movie in the extensive Night Of The Living Dead series. As the sequel to the classic 1968 zombie movie, the story continues where zombies have continued to ravage the country despite efforts by local and federal forces to try to gain control. Society’s effectively collapsed and survivors are forced to find shelter. In this movie, two SWAT team members are joined by two civilians looking to escape the city as they try to seek shelter in the Monroeville Mall.
Starting at midnight tonight, theaters and drive-ins throughout the U.S. and Canada will start featuring the flick. Fans that attend will also be able to get some pretty cool anniversary collectibles from FRIGHT-RAGS and ISH! All in all, the movie will be shown on 90 screens throughout North America, with many offering multiple showings until the end of May.
