Danai Gurira jokes there might be a few occupational hazards after starring in AMC’s hit franchise The Walking Dead.
The Black Panther star, 46, admits she’s “a bit of a scaredy-cat” in this week’s issue of PEOPLE. “I think, ‘If someone broke in, what would I do?’ And with the weather in L.A., I got some water through my roof, and it’s like, ‘Is this whole ceiling coming down?'” she says. “I do think out every [worst-case] scenario. Maybe I was on The Walking Dead too long.”
Gurira, who returns for AMC’s new spinoff series, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, spoke to the magazine for One Last Thing:
Last moment of self-care
Whenever I exercise. I try to four times a week. Getting a sweat, hitting a certain heart rate so you feel like you’re getting a little renewal. Prayer, meditation, reading scripture. That’s all very much self-care for me as well.
Last time I felt nostalgic
I was back in Zimbabwe in December. Just driving past the house I grew up in and my high school gave me nostalgia. I didn’t go inside — I wish I had.
Last time I danced
Probably getting ready this morning. I have a speaker in my bathroom. It’s all about the music. Like I was at a friend’s 10th wedding anniversary, and when the DJ was told, “Just play ’90s hip-hop for this crowd,” it was a wrap.
Last game I played
A very serious game of charades a couple Sundays ago with friends. I’m not good, but I’m not bad —I’m somewhere in the middle. We ended in a tie, but we had to scrap for it.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. EST on AMC.
