Dying Light hailed as one of the best zombie games ever made – GAMINGbible

With so many zombie video games on the market, it might be difficult for the best games of its type to stand out and shuffle away from the horde.

From Resident Evil, Dead Rising, Telltales The Walking Dead, Left 4 Dead, Days Gone, Yakuza: Dead Souls and more, there are truly some absolute gems of its genre. You really couldn’t go much wrong with any of the aforementioned zombie-inspired games, especially if you’re a fan of horror and action.

However, we’ve had some stinkers too. For example, zombie games that you should avoid like an infectious bite include The Walking Dead: Survival Instincts, Umbrella Corps, and Metal Gear Survive to name a few. Oh yes, there is a Metal Gear zombie game.

One other game that is worth your time is the 2015 entry from Techland, Dying Light and fans have been discussing this open-world, zombie-slaying, parkour delight on Reddit. Dying Light tells the story of an undercover agent named Kyle Crane, voiced by Roger Craig Smith, one of the voices of Chris Redfield from the Resident Evil series, as well as Ezio Auditore of Assassin’s Creed and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Located in the fictional city of Harran, somewhere in the Middle East, the city has been quarantined due to a deadly virus outbreak turning residents into feral zombies. The city of Harran is massive and players were not only encouraged to engage with the zombie hordes but also escape utilising free-flowing parkour.

What’s more, Dying Light features an impressive day and night cycle, in which when night falls, the zombies become more deadly than ever. Dying Light most certainly has an emphasis on risk vs. reward. I should also add that its soundtrack is simply sublime.

Was Dying Light a perfect game, no, not by a long shot, but it sure was fun as hell. “Even after almost 10 years, Dying Light is still my favourite zombie game that I’ve played to date,” said Reddit user rodejo_9, opening up the discussion on the thread.

“I’d consider it the most well-rounded zombie game” they continued. “Great gameplay, engaging story, single player, multiplayer, replayability, an intricate crafting system with a huge variety in weapons, tons of great DLC, and let’s not forget the most important of all, parkour.”

Dying Light is so good; I’m still bummed at how let down I was by Dying Light 2. The feeling of movement, the smooth controls, the simple but fun story, all better than the original,” replied PacienceW. “Playing Dying Light 2 made me want to go back and play Dying Light,” added PhoenixKA.

Dying Light was such a blast. I played the game with a friend. Drop-kicking zombies were the best. And I don’t think I’ve ever been as scared as seeing my first Volatile,” said a reminiscent Kostoi. “Dying Light is tons of goofy fun. I tried Projectzomboid once, the multiplayer update dropped and I don’t know if it’ll ever be topped,” responded a joyous SlyyKozlov. “Highly recommend. Best zombie game I’ve ever played bar-none.”

Dying Light is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
