‘Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live’ Trailer: Rick and Michonne Search World – PEOPLE

Fans are inching closer to the highly anticipated premiere of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live with a brand new trailer!

In AMC’s second teaser for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne Grimes (Danai Gurira)’s return to the screen, the beloved couple fight through their respective share of zombies on their quest to find each other on the hope the other is still alive.

“I lost someone years ago,” Michonne reveals with tears in her eyes. As she pulls one of Rick’s old boots close to her chest, she continues, “Now I’m looking for him.”

Rick, who appears to have duties culling walkers, leans against a brick wall with a bloodied face. As the scene transitions to a shot of him holding a dead cellphone with Michonne’s face carved on the screen, he declares, “I have to keep trying. I won’t stop, I’m getting there. I’m getting home.”

As for Michonne, she continues her search, coming across abandoned cruise ships and encountering kindred spirits along the way. “It’s been so long,” she cries.

Like Rick, Michonne possesses a matching smart phone with an engraving of two people and his name alongside a Japanese inscription. As she holds up her device, one of her travel companions translates, “You know what it says, the Japanese? Believe a little longer.”

In addition to the lovers’ quest to reunite, the trailer also teases Rick’s struggle with the Civic Republic Military which he’s seemingly forced to join.

“Why do you even think I’m going to go along with all of this?” he exclaims to CRM Leaser Major General Beale (Terry O’Quinn). Over scenes of soldiers and battle artillery that prove his military strength, Beale answers, “Because everything will change.”

Elsewhere Michonne deals with her own set of problems. When a bomb of yellow gas detonates in an abandoned city, she screams, “Scatter!” before the fumes can engulf her and her companions.

Tension between Rick and Beale seem to bubble over when Rick screams, “This isn’t everything! You don’t get to choose for the world, you don’t get to choose for me!”

As the trailer ends with scenes of car chases, helicopters shooting missiles into buildings and more slaughtered zombies, Rick concludes ominously, “This broken world shall be put together.”

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will follow the epic love story between married pair Rick Grimes (Lincoln) and Michonne (Gurira), who first met on The Walking DeadBoth exited the series before it wrapped after 11 seasons in November 2022.

Rick had been presumed dead when he left The Walking Dead in season 9 after blowing up a bridge to prevent an invasion of walkers, but Michonne later learned her spouse had survived and set out to find him in season 10.

This will be the sixth spinoff to come from the The Walking Dead, itself an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard.
