The second trailer for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live aims for a mood, and that mood is pervasive dread.
Coming two weeks after the first trailer, the new clip features multiple shots of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) slaying zombies — it seems to be Rick’s job — while hoping against hope that the other is still alive and they can find each other once again.
That’s the animating principle for the series, which brings Lincoln and Gurira back into the Walking Dead fold after both departed the flagship series in the later years of its run. The trailer also features a slightly longer glimpse at the military force headed by Terry O’Quinn’s character, Beale, who tells Rick that “everything will change” if he comes on board with Beale’s vision.
The Ones Who Live, which premieres Feb. 25 on AMC and its streaming service AMC+, puts Rick and Michonne in “another world, built on a war against the dead … and ultimately, a war against the living,” as the show’s logline reads. “Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”
Along with Lincoln, Gurira and O’Quinn, the show’s cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Pollyanna McIntosh — reprising the role Jadis, who saved Rick in season nine of The Walking Dead — and Matthew Jeffers. The Walking Dead creative chief Scott M. Gimple is the showrunner and executive produces with Lincoln, Gurira, Denise Huth and Brian Bockrath.
