“It’s been so long,” laments a distraught Michonne (Danai Gurira) in a new trailer for “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.” Long is right! The new series marks the highly anticipated return of the lead characters from the main series, as Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne search for one another after sitting out the final few seasons of “The Walking Dead.” This new show will premiere on Sunday, February 25 on AMC and AMC+. Watch the first look trailer above.
Rick and Michonne never appear together in the footage, but it’s clear that both characters will find themselves on a collision course with the dangerous group known as the CRM. This imposing military force has made cameo appearances over the years and served as the primary foe in the spin-off show “The World Beyond.”

Michonne appears to be taking on the CRM from the outside, joining forces with a rag tag group who reside in a wrecked cruise ship. A handmade sign on the ship reads “safe harbor,” and hopefully that slogan rings true as Michonne clearly has her work cut out for her. Several scenes depict the heroine in a cityscape being bombarded with bombs. Though some of this footage looks eerily similar to the “Operation Cobalt” scenes all the way back from Season 1 of “The Walking Dead.” In that storyline, the military bombed major American cities in an attempt to wipe out the undead threat, which would imply that the current CRM was born out of the military.
Rick may be able to help Michonne take down the CRM from the inside, as he is glimpsed still wearing a jacket emblazoned with their logo and seemingly doing their bidding. His one-time ally Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) appears in a fearsome pose, along with a new shorter hairdo. But it’s unclear if Rick can still trust the former junkyard queen as she becomes enamored with the rigid structure of the CRM.

Of course, no installment of “The Walking Dead” is complete without a true Big Bad. The trailer treats fans to a confrontation between Rick and CRM leader, General Beale. Played by “Lost” Emmy winner Terry O’Quinn, aka mister John Locke himself, Beale is a villain that will surely outpace the likes of The Governor or Negan with his threat level.
Michonne concludes the trailer with a hopeful line: “We could make this whole damn world ours if we want to.” Let’s hope General Beale lets them live long enough to see that dream come true.
