The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live release window, what to expect, additional cast, and more – Sportskeeda

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live finally has a release window and a new trailer. The sixth spin-off of the famed titular franchise will hit AMC and AMC+ next year in February. The trailer of The Ones Who Live was unveiled at the New York Comic-Con recently. In the promotional clip, only Rick Grimes and his love interest, Michonne, were featured.

The short video thus underlined the official gist released last year that The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live would be about the passion and romantic feelings Rick and Michonne harbored for one another.

Created by Scott M. Gimple and Danai Gurira (who reprises her role of Michonne), the TV series will see the return of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes and Pollyanna McIntosh as Jadis Stokes/Anne.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will show the story of Rick Grimes and Michonne

As per details reported so far, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will take off following the events of season 9, episode 5. Titled What Comes After, it premiered on AMC on November 4, 2018. In the episode, lasting 45 minutes, the events hinted at Rick Grimes’ presumed death after he disappeared in a CRM helicopter with Anne.

The upcoming series will also cover what happened after What We Become, episode 13 of season 10 of the main show. In it, viewers saw how Michonne embarked on a search to find her lover, Rick, after he went missing. When she got a hint of him being alive, the character departed from the show only to return now.

Per an announcement made last June, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will “continue the journey and love story” between these two characters. At last year’s San Diego Comic-Con, AMC representatives also declared the description of the upcoming series.

“This series presents an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world…Kept apart by distance. By an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were. Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living.

“Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive — or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?” the description read.

As for the cast, apart from the ones mentioned, The Ones Who Live will feature the following new faces:

  • Terry O’Quinn as Beale
  • Matt Jeffries as Matt
  • Lesley-Ann Brandt as Pearl

Executive produced by co-creators Gimple and Gurira, lead actor Andrew Lincoln, Denise Huth, and Brian Bockrath, the series will reportedly have six episodes and probably be a limited series.

Reports suggest the first episode will have Bert and Bertie at the helm. The British director duo Amber Templemore-Finlayson and Katie Ellwood are best known for Troop Zero, the Disney+ series Hawkeye (block of episodes), and Our Flag Means Death (block of episodes).

Principal photography commenced on February 15 this year, and the team called it a wrap on May 29. Another filming schedule may take place after the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike ends.
