The TWD Universe’s Rick and Michonne spinoff, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, will not be premiering on AMC or AMC+ this year. When can fans expect it?
Rick and Michonne are on their way back to TV screens. The pair, who were once at the forefront of AMC’s juggernaut The Walking Dead, will return in the upcoming spinoff series The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live – one of three new spinoffs set in the world of TWD.
We last saw Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes in a regular capacity when the character was “killed off” and taken by the mysterious Civic Republic Military in the fifth episode of season 9. Danai Gurira’s Michonne ventured out into the unknown to find him midway through season 10. The pair then briefly returned in the series finale, setting the stage for their official return in the spinoff.
Speaking of spinoffs, the TWD Universe has grown a great deal since the close of the main show, with Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and the final season of original offshoot Fear The Walking Dead all premiering this year. Unfortunately, you shouldn’t expect TWD: The Ones Who Live to be a part of the fall line-up on AMC as it won’t be premiering this year.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live will premiere on AMC and AMC+ in 2024. The show was initially expected to premiere in the fall of 2023, but production didn’t commence as quickly as fans thought it might, so AMC eventually made the decision to delay its premiere until early next year.
While many of the upcoming TV shows have been delayed during the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, The Ones Who Live won’t be impacted. The show had already completed principal photography prior to the strikes, and AMC has since reached an agreement with SAG-AFTRA to allow additional filming and ADR to take place.
With that in mind, the show will maintain its 2024 release window. It’s just a matter of when exactly in the year it will premiere.
In the meantime, if you’re craving more TWD content, there is indeed plenty to enjoy. The first of the new spinoffs, Dead City, premiered in the summer, while the second, Daryl Dixon, is currently airing on AMC this fall. After that, original TWD spinoff Fear The Walking Dead will return for its final six episodes.
