Writer-filmmaker George A. Romero passed away in July 2017, leaving a void in the horror film genre. The good part is that before he died, Romero had begun writing on the final product of his famous horror franchise. Titled Twilight of the Dead, George had described the project as the ‘Godfather of the Zombie’, or at least he thought his fans would think of it like that.
Twilight of the Dead was announced four years after Romero’s death, but there had not been much news about the project. But in Summer 2023, we heard that Twilight of the Dead will begin production soon.

Romero’s widowed wife granted permission for the script
George A. Romero had started Twilight of the Dead in 2017 along with writer-producer Paolo Zelati. After Romero’s death, his wife Suzanne Romero granted permission to Zelati to access Romero’s script and develop it. The unfinished script was thus developed by Zelati with Joe Knetter and Robert L. Lucas.
Suzanne Romero was happy with the finished script and said that her late husband would be “incredibly happy to see this continue”. She also described the film as his “final stamp” on the horror genre.
George A. Romero’s first zombie film, Night of the Living Dead, was released in October 1968. Six movies later, the final film of the franchise will be Twilight of the Dead.
